I believe education is a key to success, and I try to connect my passion for education with my desire of helping others. As a result, I decided to apply for this opportunity. In 2002, I graduated with my BSN from Lewis University with high honors Valedictorian and received the Dean’s Key award. During my enrollment, I participated in the work study program, which allowed me the opportunity to assist other students in the computer lab while also providing technical support for the instructors. I led a peer study group and was awarded the Miguel Cordero Award. I was the secretary for Sigma Theta Tau during my undergraduate studies. In addition, I maintained part time employment with Hinsdale Hospital, while also raising two toddlers.
All of these experiences have helped shape me. I have faced many challenges, balancing work and school, and I have willingly given my time. My goal is to continue with my nursing education to attain a Doctoral level of NP. I would eventually like to teach part time at an accredited nursing college. I know that when my goals are achieved, I will be able to provide meaningful resources to my patients, their families, and other nursing students as well.
Regarding professional goals, I have been striving to get the most from my education. Rather than allowing the hard work of my studies discourage me, I regard it as an opportunity to elevate myself to another level of understanding. I hope to further my career in Family Practice and Hospice and potentially initiate a Hospice facility is Aspen, Co. I have found through my experience in Hospice that the dying process of life is just as important as the living process. I am hopeful that through fostering academic growth, professional growth, and personal growth, I can be more of an asset to the nursing profession and to the community as a whole.
