Fellowships cover tuition, required fees, books, and room and board. The award cannot exceed $12,000 per academic year. One fellowship is awarded in each U.S. state or territory. After earning a Master's degree, each James Madison Fellow is required to teach American history, American government, or social studies in grades 7-12 for one year for each full academic year of study under the fellowship. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for this award. Current teachers who wish to pursue graduate study on a part-time basis are also eligible. This fellowship has an application deadline of early March.
