I am currently a Graduate student conducting a study at Humboldt State University (HSU) in Northern California, home to a relatively brand new 40 million dollar facility in our Kinesiology Department, alongside Dr. Young Sub Kwon, Professor and Director of HSU Human Performance Lab. We are conducting a revolutionary study and the first of its kind on Elite and Amateur Mixed Martial Art (MMA) Athletes. One of the primary goals of our research is to devise an athletic profile on these athletes to augment performance in MMA while simultaneously educating coaches and athletes that much of the traditional training is now becoming obsolete according to current science. This study may help the fill the gaps in the absence of science literature and provide some basic guidelines to help coaches and athletes determine their level of fitness, identify physical weaknesses, find an appropriate weight class to compete in, develop training goals, and help coaches prescribe exercise and predict optimal performance.

I have studied and competed in various martial arts since age 8 and trained in MMA for 7 years while competing in 5 Amateur bouts. Additionally, I am the Co‐founder of Lost Boys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Muay Thai Gym, and an Strength & Conditioning Coach whose focus has been on MMA fighters for the past 4 years.  I Graduated in May of 2014 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology; Emphasis in Exercise Science/Health Promotion with a Minor in Psychology. I have worked over 1,000 hours as a Physical Therapist Aide since 2011 to present. I have always been interested in athletic performance, leading me to choose the “Effects of Hypohydration on Muscular Performance” as the subject of my undergraduate senior research paper. I broke the all-time HSU vertical jump record 42inch, and tied Bench record 365lb and Squat record 515lb in the 170-180lb weight division. In my spare time I hav created a website to provide pertinent knowledge for athletes or anyone desiring knowledge to help them with their performance @ sportsciencenineering.blogspot.com.

In 2014, I had the privilege of being able to intern at Adrenaline Performance Center (APC) in Montreal, Quebec, a facility that specializes in athletic performance enhancement. I had the pleasure to work under Strength & Conditioning Coach Jonathan Chaimberg, a renowned figure in the world of fitness and a trainer to many of the top MMA competitors in the world. On the short list of worldclass athletes he has worked with are UFC legends and champions such as Georges St. Pierre, Rashad Evans, Shane Carwin, and Jon Jones. During this internship I lived in the dorms of the world renowned Tristar Fight Gym and worked one on one with many of the athletes at Tristar and APC. He learned proper applications in training various professional athletes from Basketball, Football, Hockey, Boxing, Wrestling, Soccer, Baseball, but worked mainly with MMA fighters. I believes I have learned as much from them as they did from him, which makes me confident that this experience will serve to make me a better student, scientist, and coach. I know continue to work at APC gym in Montreal every Summer.
