Reaching for my dreams

Jan 15,2017

Hello My name is Lois Beck and I'm 38 year's old and this is my story of how I reached for my dreams. It wasn't till 2008 that I started truly reaching for my dreams when I knew that it was time to really get to where I wanted to be. A single mom of 4 kids was very hard and I wanted a better life for them and for myself so I set out to get my GED and then enroll in college so that I could follow my dreams. I made two different lists one with short term goals and one with long term goals and having my mind set that no matter what I would reach all my goals and my dreams. In 2011 I earned my GED after taking the test over and over and yes this was a happy day for me and my family. With family and friends by my side they say me graduate with my class and in August I started college classes in the criminal justice filed. My main goal was to become an attorney in Family Law because it had been a long time dream and goal that I set out to do. In April of 2012 I moved to Twenty-nine Palms, CA. when my husband came home from deployment and still stayed in college and have now been in school for almost 6 years. My journey has brought me many up's and down’s, but I have stuck to it and reminded myself that I can't give up. There is a saying “Know what you don't know " and yes I have carried that with me for 6 years after learning it. As I get ready to graduate it is my hopes and prayers that my children have learned how important it is to finish school and go on to college. I am a member of the American Legion and ride motorcycles and love spending time with my family and volunteer my time helping out with the veterans. My kids are Michael who is 19 and has his first son Trenton who is almost 6 months old and Dustin is 18 loves to fish and hunt, Tara is 15 and loves to do gymnastics and plans to train with the USA team in about 6 months and Kayla is 14 and loves to sing like her mommy and has a great voice. In 2013 I become a wedding and event planner which I love doing because my daughters help run my business. I love to sing so I do a lot of karaoke when I can on the weekends and I love to read and go to school and spend time with my family because I feel that it is very important to learn and to get a good education because without it jobs are hard to get. So I always teach my kids that they need to do what is right and get that education so they can get good jobs and be able to have what they need and want.
