I am living the dream!

“There comes a day when you realize turning the page is the best feeling in the world, because you realize there is so much more to the book than the page you were stuck on.” -Taryn Malik

So I have turned the page and started a new chapter in my book of life. I am now officially a graduate student at the American University of Paris, getting my Masters in Global Communication with a specialized track in Development Communications. Basically, I want to save the world and this track within my Masters program is designed to teach me just how to do that. There are less than 70 people in the Masters programs here at AUP and only 37 in my Global Communications program. Our student to teacher ratio is something awesome like 6:1 which is amazing considering back in the United States student teacher ratios are out of this world.

Have I mentioned yet how much I love Paris? I do… I love all of it! The people, the food, the culture, the architecture, the history, the art, everything and now I get to love my school on top of all of that. I may never move back to Dallas again. I spent the past week in my new apartment that is literally a block from the Eiffel Tower. Walking up to my front door all you see is the Eiffel Tower in front of you. So I am not even 5 minutes from school, 5 minutes from church, just south of the Seine River, so pretty much the ideal location from my childhood dreams. I am literally living my dream come true.

We have had our first few days of class and so far everything is amazing. I love my professors and classmates and the courses are all fascinating. I am hoping for a TA position with one of the undergraduate professors. But also I have an interview with a speaking agency here in Paris to tutor English. Any extra income is good income to have when you’re living in one of the most expensive cities in the world, in one of the most expensive arrondissements in Paris. But I couldn’t be happier!

For my Digital Media class I will be writing for the “Opinion” column on the PeacockPlume.fr site. I will be writing opinion pieces on whatever topic I choose. It’s a graduate practicum that will help me build my online portfolio as well as develop my own personal brand. I will have a Twitter page, an online personal blog as well as my Facebook and LinkedIn. I am really excited about this class. I know it will be an awesome experience writing for this site as well as building a portfolio that I can use professionally from here on out.

It was time to turn the page and move onto the next chapter in the story of my life. I have done a lot in my first 30 years, some things I am extremely proud of, some not so much but that is the point. Making mistakes is part of the journey. If you don’t try, how will you ever know what you can and cannot do. And for me personally, there is not much that I cannot do if I really want to do it. For example, I am living in Paris for the next year getting my long awaited Masters degree that will lead to the career options I have been dreaming of. There is still a possibility of me attending Oxford University next year to get my MBA but I need to coordinate with Raquel, the Associate Dean of the Oxford Said Business School MBA program.

So, in short, I am living the dream. Life is amazing. I have never been happier than I am right now. I don’t belong in Dallas. I belong here in Paris. Have I mentioned yet how much I love Paris? :)
