Amity Wants You to Read This Book

Nov 12,2015

I always love when a book is so good that you can’t put it down.  There have been several books like this that I have finished the day that I have started them.  Amity by Micol Ostow falls into this category.  If I did not have studying or other class work to work on, I probably would have finished this book in one day.  I finished it within five days after I started it.  The book surrounds the famous house of the Amityville Horror, of which a book and several movies of the same name were made.  I highly recommend you to read about this case if you have not heard about it because it is really fascinating.  There is even a document on Netflix and YouTube called “The Real Amityville Horror” which I also highly recommend.  I figured since I just finished this book that I would give my reasons as to why you should read it.

1.  It’s easy to read.  The book flows very well in the way that it is written.  There are not chapters in the book; rather, it flips between two different teens who are separated by ten years.  Each section has just enough information to keep it interesting without it cramming in too much information.  Some of these sections are two or three sentences, while the longest are only two pages front and back.

2.  It’s VERY intense.  Just by looking at the front cover of the book, and knowing the events that inspired it, you can tell that this book is creepy.  While the author does rely on ironic and stereotypical scares sometimes, the way that she incorporates these scares is what makes this book creepy.  The effect that this house has on the people involved is what is absolutely terrifying.

3.  The ending will leave you guessing.  The ending of this book is so intense and surprising that it will leave you guessing as to what happens next.  In fact, it will have you begging for a sequel (at least, I am begging for one).   This book is one that you have to really pay attention to in order to fully understand what is happening.  If you love the unexpected, then this is the book for you.

I hope that this has inspired you to try this book out.  It is one that is filled with scares and intense moments that will leave you speechless and checking under your bed at night.  Please let me know if you have read this book or are wanting to read it and let me know if you finish it and what you think of it.  This is really a book to dig into (this is a pun that can only be known by actually reading the book).
